Free Cooling Units

Like the sound of free cooling? - Look no further!

J&E Hall ABC / Hubbard ATU

The J&E Hall Ambient Beer Cooler or Hubbard Air Transfer Unit circulates cool exterior air into the cellar area to reduce the need for your cellar cooler to be doing the work.

Let the natural outside air chill your cellar during the colder months… once installed it is virtually free air conditioning!

The benefits associated with using exterior cool air at this level can be substantial along with huge energy savings throughout the colder months.

Help save energy costs!

These units control the cellar cooler and introduces FREE outdoor air.

So how does it actually work?

The system is linked to your own cellar cooling system and will operate when the outdoor temperature drops to 8C or lower. This will then switch off your cellar refrigeration. Once the outdoor temperature rises above 10C the ABC/ATU/EBC will switch back on your cellar cooler, and itself switch off.

In current British climates, this is likely to operate for at least 3 months of the year with your cellar cooler operating during the 9 warmer months.

If it is cold enough outside, the ‘free air conditioning unit’ comes on and uses the outside air to cool the room instead of your normal cellar cooler. When the temperature outside gets too warm, the cellar cooler switches on (controlled by the ‘free air unit’) to cool the room down instead. This saves you money in running costs with the cellar cooler not being on all the time.

The system uses a flexible duct (150mm) to connect from your cellar to outside, so it is best suited to above ground cellars for ease of the ducting run to the outdoor wall.

These units are powered from a 13-amp socket and requires just a live from your cellar cooler to the ‘free air conditioning unit’ then a live back to the cellar cooler plus earth.

The ‘free air unit’ takes over full temperature control.

With newer cellar cooling systems, the payback time will be longer as the cooling system may be fairly efficient, with older systems the payback will be sooner, however it may be more worthwhile to change the complete cooling system and have the most up to date system.

Costs?

*Price is for the ABC unit with the ATU being slightly more

Leasing or Rental

The typical installed cost starts at £1,685 +VAT* and we anticipate you could recoup the money within 12 – 18 months through a 40% potential operating cost saving. This will also prolong the life of your cellar cooling system as it will operate much less.

If you have this installed alongside a new system then we can discount it to £1,450 +VAT.
